DAWN, others warn against collapse of Dangote Refinery

Seek Tinubu’s urgent intervention between regulatory authorities, firm

The Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) has called on President Bola Tinubu as Minister of Petroleum to call on relevant authorities and stakeholders to adopt a collaborative and proactive problem-solving approach to resolve the ongoing face-off between the regulatory authorities and Aliko Dangote Refinery.

A statement signed by the Director-General of DAWN, Seye Oyeleye, yesterday, stated that Tinubu’s timely intervention in hosting a crucial meeting with key stakeholders on the issue would be a step in the right direction.

The commission also added that it is imperative on the Federal Government to ensure that the Dangote Refinery succeeds “not only to improve Nigeria’s struggling forex balance, but also to support the broader regional integration agenda.”

DAWN, while describing the development as putrid and a threat to undermine the nation’s economic growth and stability, posited that it is crucial for the regulatory bodies to maintain a professional and collaborative approach and must avoid giving the impression of acting as competitors rather than regulators.

Also, the Middle Belt Forum has warned the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to be careful not to take any step tantamount to pulling down Dangote Refinery, else Nigerians would resist it.

President of the Forum, BirtusPorgus, who spoke with The Guardian said: “NNPCL should supply crude oil to the refinery, otherwise, whoever wants to collapse the Dangote Refinery would be tagged as “enemy of Nigeria and Nigerians.”

In another reaction, Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum has called the attention of Nigerians to the allegation that some cabals of enormous wealth and interest are destroying industrialisation and job opportunities within the Nigerian state and purposely for selfish interest.

President of the Forum, Akin Malaolu, said: “We are calling on all reasonable leaders, including the President, not to delay investigations into these many allegations. We are surprised at these strange allegations against those who have the responsibilities to manage our refineries but turned traitors because of pecuniary interest.
