Saudi Arabia declares June 6 Eid-el-Kabir

Saudi Arabian authorities have confirmed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, which signals the beginning of the 12th month in the Islamic calendar

The Day of Arafah, which marks the peak of Hajj, will fall on June 5, while Eid-el-Kabir will be observed on June 6.

The announcement was made by the Kingdom’s Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Dhul Hijjah is the month in which Muslims worldwide journey to Makkah to perform hajj, which is the fifth pillar of Islam.

Ahead of the confirmation, the court urged Muslims across the Kingdom to observe the sky for the crescent on the evening of Dhu Al-Qa’dah 29 and report any sightings to the nearest court promptly.

In line with the celebration, the Saudi government has declared a weeklong holiday for public and private sector employees.
