Women’s African Volleyball: CAVB hails Nigeria Customs for hosting

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has earned high praise from the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) following its successful hosting of the 39th Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship, held in Abuja from April 1–14, 2025.

According to the CAVB, the 2025 edition of the championship marked a significant shift, as it was the first time in many years that the tournament was hosted outside North Africa, thereby reinforcing Nigeria’s growing influence in continental sports.

In a formal letter of appreciation addressed to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, signed by the CAVB President Bouchra Hajij, described the tournament as a “historic milestone” and commended the NCS for setting a new standard for sports hosting on the African continent.

Hajij applauded the Customs Service for redefining excellence and inclusivity, noting the championship’s transformative impact not just as a sporting event but as a platform for social change and community empowerment.

In an official statement issued by Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer, the NCS attributed the championship’s success to meticulous planning, strategic collaboration, and the generosity of the Service in providing world-class infrastructure, seamless logistics, and a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere that energized participants and spectators alike.

Maiwada emphasized that the event exemplified the Customs Service’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and to advancing development through sports, particularly for women and young people.

The CAVB further hailed the NCS as an “ample and able partner of African Volleyball,” adding that the 2025 edition would leave a lasting legacy and serve as a blueprint for future championships across the continent.

Under the visionary leadership of CGC Adeniyi and his management team, the Nigeria Customs Service reaffirmed its commitment to supporting platforms that champion inclusion, empower the youth, and project Nigeria positively on the global stage.

The NCS extended heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders, partners, and members of the public who contributed to making the championship a resounding success.
