Ebonyi rep pays inmates’ exam fees, gives farm inputs to farmers

As part of his commitment toward promoting quality education and food security for his constituents, the member representing Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency, Ebonyi State, in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, this weekend paid WAEC, NECO, and JAMB fees for over 3,000 candidates in the constituency, including inmates.

Ogah, who is the House Chairman on Custodian Centers, also offered scholarships to 300 vulnerable orphans, distributed 5,000 bags of fertilizer, and over 1,000 bags of rice seedlings to farmers in the constituency.

The lawmaker made the pronouncement during the distribution of the farm inputs to farmers in Ohatekwe Amagu, Ikwo Local Government Area of the state, noting that the gesture was to increase food production and promote literacy in the constituency and the state in general.

He said there was much food production in the constituency last year because of the fertilizers he distributed, adding that it encouraged him to increase his efforts this year.

“We are distributing these inputs to the farmers in the constituency early this year so that they will have a bumper harvest,” he said.

He noted that the school aspect will cost him over N200 million, breaking it down as follows: N91 million for scholarships, N76 million for WAEC, N41 million for NECO, N5.6 million for JAMB, and N3.9 million for the inmates writing WAEC.

Speaking, the Wife of the state Governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, lauded the lawmaker for his impact, describing him as a great philanthropist and true servant of the people.

She said that his gesture was in line with the People’s Charter of Needs of the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru in the state, saying that Ogah has been transforming lives and strengthening the constituency.

Mrs. Nwifuru described farmers as the backbone of the state’s local economy, urging them to make use of the improved farming inputs they received from Ogah to be able to feed their families, the state, and the nation.

“As the first lady of the state and the founder of Better Life for Rural Women and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO), and more importantly as a mother, I am proud to see such a comprehensive empowerment initiative that touches the heart of development such as food security, education, and youth advancement,” she said.
