A man identified as Ezeoke Chidera has been arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command for allegedly killing his 60-year-old neighbour, Mrs. Rose Awoke, with a shovel.

The incident allegedly took place on Monday at Egugho village in Ezzagu community, Ishielu Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)in the state, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the suspect attacked Mrs. Awoke following a dispute, hitting her multiple times with the shovel, which led to her death.

“On 02/06/2025 at about 0600hrs, we received a report that one Ezeoke Chidera, who lives in the same compound with Mrs. Awoke Rose, aged about 60 years, attacked her by hitting her several times with a shovel and abandoned her in a pool of her blood,” the statement read.

The police confirmed that officers apprehended Chidera and that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
