• Assure residents of safety in Ogun
The Lagos State Police Command has intensified security across the metropolis to maintain peace during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Oluhundare Moshood, led a ‘Show of Force’ on Wednesday, demonstrating the Command’s resolve to prevent crime and ensure public safety.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the measures, stating, “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the immediate deployment of Conventional Police personnel, the Rapid Response Squad, the Eko Strike Force, and other Tactical Squads to all strategic locations across Lagos State.”
Special anti-crime teams have been stationed at black spots, criminal hideouts, and flashpoints to deter illegal activities. Armoured personnel carriers and vehicular patrols have been deployed to secure Eid prayer grounds, mosques, recreational centres, and public venues.
“Particular attention is being paid to recreation centres and other public spaces where large gatherings are expected,” Hundeyin noted. “These spaces will be properly policed to ensure crowd control, traffic management, and ease of access throughout Lagos State.”
The Commissioner emphasised professionalism among officers, urging them to respect citizens’ rights while maintaining public order. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities to the police via control room numbers 08063299264 and 08065154338.
To address potential misconduct, citizens can also contact the Command’s Complaint Response Unit. Religious leaders and community elders are urged to promote peace and tolerance during the festivities.
Moshood extended warm Sallah wishes, saying, “The Commissioner of Police, on behalf of the entire command, joins all Muslim faithful in the state in the Sallah celebration, wishing everyone sustainable peace, love, and joy associated with the holy festival.”
Similarly, the Ogun State Police Command reassured residents of comprehensive security measures to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has deployed extensive motorised patrols and tactical teams across the state to maintain order and prevent crime.
Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed in a statement yesterday that specialised units, including SWAT, Monitoring, Anti-Kidnapping, and Anti-Cultism sections, have been strategically positioned to curb violent crimes. She added that round-the-clock surveillance and a visible police presence will cover praying grounds, public facilities, banks, and recreation centres across the state.
To bolster security, Odutola noted that extended patrols with sister agencies have been enhanced at flashpoints such as Onigari, Ayetoro, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu Interchange, Long Bridge, Alapako, Ogunmakin, and Abeokuta. Officers will conduct stop-and-search operations in these areas.
“Divisional Police Officers, supervised by Area Commanders, will patrol their jurisdictions, while joint task force operations with sister agencies will secure border towns,” Odutola said.
The Commissioner of Police has urged residents to cooperate with security agencies to foster a safer environment. He also extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful in the state, encouraging them to embrace the spirit of peace during the festivities.
