Lagos govt to prioritise former occupants during shop allocation at Alaba Market

The Lagos State government has announced plans to prioritise previous occupants in allocating shops at the Alaba Transnational Market, which is undergoing redevelopment.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Babatunde, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the site over the weekend. He emphasised the administration’s commitment to completing the project before the end of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s tenure.

“The redevelopment of the market is not intended to displace users but to transform the market into a modern edifice with adequate facilities that would make buying and selling easy, in line with the Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu Administration,” Babatunde stated.

He added, “As a matter of fact, in allocating shops at the Alaba Transnational Market, Lagos State will give precedence to previous users, who will be required to obtain and complete the necessary forms from the local council.”

Chairman of Iba LCDA, Yisa Abiola Jubril, lauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for undertaking the redevelopment despite numerous challenges. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring former users benefit from the upgraded market.
