The People With Disabilities (PWDs) in Borno state have hailed Governor Babagana Zulum for pushing the Disability Rights Bill (DRB) at the State’s House of Assembly in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Chairman of the Joint National People With Disabilities (JNAPWD) in the State, Mallam Mustapha commended Zulum when they visited the State’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof Usman Tar, at the Musa Usman Secretariat complex

Mustapha disclosed that the bill has successfully scaled its second reading and is expected to complete the remaining legislative processes before being passed into law and assented to by the governor.

According to him, the proposed legislation also provides for the establishment of the Borno State Disability Welfare Board (BDWB), which will strengthen institutional support for Persons with Disabilities across the state.

The Chairman expressed appreciation to the Borno State Government for its sustained commitment to promoting the rights, welfare and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.

Speaking during the visit,, the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Prof Tar, reaffirmed the State’s commitment to empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through inclusive policies and programmes aimed at enhancing their welfare and promoting self-reliance.

Prof Tar, who gave the assurance while receiving the leadership of JNAPWD, during the courtesy visit to his office stated that the administration of Governor Zulum remains committed to creating an enabling environment for persons with disabilities by providing the necessary support, opportunities and facilities to improve their socio-economic well-being and ensure their full participation in the development of the state.

He also reiterated government’s resolve to advance disability inclusion through legislative reforms, noting that the proposed Disability Rights Bill reflects the administration’s determination to safeguard the rights and welfare of Persons with Disabilities in the state.
