LASG urges homeowners to get title documents

The Lagos State Government has called on allottees of its housing estates who purchased home units on or before 2019 to apply for their Deed of Sub-Lease, if they have yet to do so.

This appeal was made by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, during the monthly stakeholders’ meeting and public enlightenment session held at the Ayangburen Jubilee Housing Estate, Ikorodu.

Represented by the Director of the Estate Department, ESV (Mrs.) Olukemi Fosudo, Toriola explained that the Deed of Sub-Lease is an essential title document issued by the State Government to homeowners in government-owned estates. He emphasized that the deed serves as proof of ownership and is valid for use in business transactions, including securing mortgages and using the property as collateral.

He also clarified the difference between the Deed of Sub-Lease and the Letter of Confirmation. According to him, the Letter of Confirmation is issued only after allottees have agreed to the terms and conditions outlined in the State Government’s Letter of Offer and have completed payment.

Toriola advised allottees who are yet to receive either the Letter of Confirmation or the Deed of Sub-Lease—or who have not completed their payment obligations—to visit the Department of Estate at the Ministry of Housing in Alausa for verification of their allocation status.

The Permanent Secretary further urged residents to take ownership of the estates, obey existing rules and regulations, and live in harmony to support the vision of the Lagos State Government for affordable and sustainable housing.

He reiterated the State’s commitment to making homeownership accessible to more citizens through transparent and efficient processes.
