President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has donated a newly constructed two-storey building to Alliance Française in Kano, providing the organisation with a permanent office space after more than three decades of operating from rented locations.
The building, located at Ahmadiyya Junction along Airport Road in Kano, was officially handed over on Thursday. Professor Gwarzo said the donation was intended to support the promotion of bilingual education and to offer a stable base for Alliance Française’s activities in the state.
“It is regrettable that Alliance Française, despite its long presence in Kano, did not have a permanent office. This donation is to ensure they no longer move from place to place,” he said.
He added that the structure is fully equipped with furniture and solar power to ensure functionality and sustainability. Gwarzo also noted that his decision was partly inspired by a similar gesture from businessman Mike Adenuga, who previously donated a building to the organisation in Lagos.
According to Gwarzo, supporting language and cultural education remains an important aspect of his broader commitment to educational development. He expressed optimism that the facility would help expand access to French language education in the region.
In response, the Director of Alliance Française Kano, Ali Dabo, expressed appreciation for the donation, describing it as timely and impactful. He also acknowledged the additional support provided in the form of infrastructure and equipment.
The building is expected to serve as a hub for cultural and educational exchange in Kano, strengthening French language learning and enhancing ties between Nigeria and the Francophone world.
