The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), has sought partnership with Correspondents’ Chapel of the Borno State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on to ensure and promote credible and balanced reporting of the institution’s activities and programmes in the country.

Unveiling the partnership on Tuesday in Maiduguri, UNIMAID’s Public Relations Officer, Amina Abdullahi said the courtesy visit to the Chapel was to further cement the existing relationship between the institution and journalists.

Am expressed sympathy to members of the chapel over the recent demise of the father of the Chapel’s Chairman, Inusa Ndahi and the loss of an active member, Alhaji Ahmed Mari. .

She, therefore offered prayers for the repose of the deceased and encouraged the bereaved families to continue remain steadfast.

The PRO also commended the journalists for their continued support to the university, and  recalled her previous experience as a correspondent in Adamawa state before her recent appointment as UNIMAID’s spokesperson.

She reiterated the importance of a sustained collaboration, adding  that the university is one of Nigeria’s leading higher institution that undertakes various academic , research and community-based activities that deserve professional, factual and objective reporting.

According to her, a stronger synergy between the university and the media would ensure timely dissemination of credible information concerning the institution’s programmes, achievements and activities of students, staff and the university community.

She assured members of Chapel of the university’s readiness to maintain an open door policy with  cordial working relationship that would foster mutual understanding and an effective information sharing.

Director of Information of the University of Maiduguri, Comrade Abubakar Sadiq Biye, acknowledged the critical role played by journalists during the heights of the Boko Haram terrorism.

He recalled that members of the Correspondents’ Chapel continued to report on the university’s activities objectively.

He said this was despite the security challenges to sustain public confidence in the institution and reassured students, staff and their families while academic activities continued.
