President Bola Tinubu has appointed Barrister Ismael Ahmed as the new Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), a key programme under the administration’s post-fuel subsidy strategy.
The appointment was made public on Friday in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, Ahmed will oversee and coordinate the national implementation of the CNG initiative, which aims to offer Nigerians cleaner and more affordable energy alternatives following the removal of petrol subsidies.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to cushion the economic impact of subsidy removal by promoting sustainable energy solutions.
“Ahmed will coordinate the operations of the Presidential Initiative, which is designed to alleviate the effects of removing fuel subsidies by offering cheaper, more affordable, and cleaner energy options,” Onanuga said.
Ahmed, 45, holds a law degree from the University of Abuja and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. He also holds a Master’s in international relations, communications, and diplomacy from Webster University, Missouri, earned in 2008.
He previously served as the Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Programme from 2018 to 2022.
The Tinubu administration describes the PCNGi as a central pillar of its palliative intervention efforts.
