The Lagos State Police Command has accused a dreaded murderer and robbery suspect, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, of being responsible for the death of 23-year-old Ramadan and 30-year-old Bolakale, who were murdered in cold blood on July 31, 2024, in the Mushin area of Lagos.
The police also linked Akinwande to the death of a nine-year-old girl, Aminat, murdered on December 9, 2010, in the Fadeyi area of the state.
The command said numerous casualties have also been linked to the suspect’s brutal operations, details of which
are being compiled during ongoing investigations and will be made available to the public.
The Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Olohundare, said the suspect voluntarily confessed to the serial killings and admitted
owning nine automatic and lethal firearms recovered by the police.
The CP said additional witnesses are still expected.
He stated that the suspect is currently in police custody, and all recovered exhibits remain in the command. He added that a remand warrant has been duly obtained from the court to enable the police to conclude the investigation and ensure due legal process.
Meanwhile, the command has also made significant progress in clamping down on sexual and gender-based violence following the recent arrest of 52 suspects, noting that 44 of the suspects have been charged in court, while eight are under investigation.
The command arrested 28 for defilement cases, four for sexual assaults by penetration, one for assault, one for grievous harm, one for indecent treatment of a child, one for abduction, one for child trafficking, one for child stealing, one for failure to provide necessary needs, two for access denial and four for domestic violence.
The commissioner of police reaffirmed the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to a crime-free society, where law-abiding citizens can go about their daily activities without fear.
He said, “To the criminal elements lurking within or outside Lagos State, your time is up. Lagos State will not be a haven for your operations. The command will continue to enhance crime surveillance, strengthening our intelligence throughout the state, tightening our intelligence networks, and utilising technological tools to detect, deter, and dismantle all forms of crime and criminality.
