Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, has said that if his artiste had collaborated with Wizkid and other top names earlier, the global rise of Afrobeats would have reached a whole new level.
He made this known during a recent episode of the Afropolitan Podcast.
According to Asika, the power of teamwork among music stars in other regions, especially Latin America, has helped their sound to gain a stronger footing worldwide.
He said, “Afrobeat would have been bigger if Davido, Wizkid and the likes of others were collaborating. I might be wrong, but the probability of Afrobeat being more successful and bigger is a thing. Our genre ticket values at international shows will be stronger.”
Asika used Latin music as an example, pointing out how singers like J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Nicky Jam built stronger visibility through joint efforts.
He believes the same approach could boost Afrobeats globally if more Nigerian acts embraced it.
Asika, who has managed Davido for over a decade, is known for helping shape the singer’s international brand and closing some of his biggest deals, including global partnerships and tours.
His recent comments come amid growing calls for top Nigerian artistes to drop their egos and work together for the sake of the industry’s future.
