Lagos CJ tasks lawyers on integrity, warns against frivolous appeals

For the sanctity of the legal profession and improved access to justice, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, has charged legal practitioners to maintain integrity and refrain from filing frivolous appeals that undermine the credibility of the judiciary.

Speaking yesterday during the commissioning of a new High Court and Magistrates’ Court complex in Amuwo-Odofin Local Council, the CJ urged lawyers to maximise the facility for fairness and not to exploit the people and the system.

He cautioned against misleading clients into filing appeals with no merit, noting that such practices not only waste judicial time but also damage professional reputation.

Justice Alogba warned that while such legal tactics may appear beneficial in the short term, clients often realise the truth later, leading to a loss of trust.

He encouraged the legal community to use the newly commissioned court complex as a true citadel of justice, emphasising that it was established to serve grassroots communities in need of closer and more efficient legal access.

Chairman of the Amuwo-Odofin Lawyers’ Forum, Chris Aghaonu, in his remarks, noted that the creation of a judicial division in the area was a long-awaited relief for lawyers, litigants, and law enforcement agencies.

He pledged that they would continually ensure justice.

Earlier, the Council Chairman, Valentine Buraimoh, expressed gratitude to the state judiciary for its support, highlighting the significance of the project.
