Magic Stars open 2025 campaign with 1–1 draw vs Dosu Joseph FC

Magic Stars FC began their 2025 NYML/NLO Division One season with a well-contested 1–1 draw against a spirited Dosu Joseph FC side, extending their unbeaten league run to eight matches across two seasons.

In a match played with intensity and discipline, it was Mba John who broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, calmly finishing after a smooth team move that carved open the opposition defence. His composed strike underscored the attacking intent that has come to define Magic Stars in recent months.

However, Dosu Joseph FC levelled proceedings early in the second half, capitalising on a rare lapse at the back to make it 1–1 in the 53rd minute. Despite the setback, Magic Stars kept their shape and composure, controlling large portions of the midfield and limiting their opponents’ opportunities as the clock wound down.

While both teams eventually settled for a point, the match served as a testament to Magic Stars’ growing tactical maturity and resilience—qualities forged during their impressive run at the prestigious Viareggio Cup in Italy earlier this year. That international campaign saw the Nigerian side reach the quarter-finals, recording wins over Casarano, Apia Leichhardt U19, Sassuolo U18, and Pesaro.

According to club president Kayode “Alpha Kay” Agboola, the Italian tournament provided crucial experience that is already paying dividends in domestic competition.

“The boys grew in confidence and mentality during the Viareggio Cup,” Agboola said. “That growth was clear in how they responded after conceding today. They didn’t panic. They stayed composed and showed they’re ready for the next level.”

The result means Magic Stars remain unbeaten in the NLO since the start of the 2024 season, with seven wins and one draw in their last eight outings. The side has scored 24 goals and conceded just three over that span—an indication of their balance in attack and defence.

With the opening fixture now behind them, Magic Stars turn their focus to their next match against Synergy Ultimate. Buoyed by their international experience and confident in their current form, Mba John and his teammates will look to convert their solid start into three points and stake an early claim in the promotion race.
