The Pastor of Cherubim and Seraphim Bible Church, Lagos, Bisi Olanrewaju, has called on Christians to shun the belief that politics is a dirty game, urging them instead to actively engage in governance and leadership to drive positive change.
Quoting Revelation 5, he reminded the congregation that believers are made “priests and kings unto God” and are therefore expected to lead by example and influence society for good.
Olanrewaju disclosed this in Abuja, during the 20th anniversary celebration of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Daki-Biyu District, Kubwa.
He noted that many Christians miss divine opportunities because they fail to follow God’s instructions.
Delivering a sermon titled “My Life: His Tabernacle,” Pastor Olanrewaju urged believers to renew their commitment to Christ and become vessels for His presence, citing Jonah 2:8.
He said, “I want to encourage our people to get involved in politics. Don’t view politics as a dirty game. If we keep calling it dirty and leave it to those with questionable intentions, then how can we expect good leaders to emerge? If the so-called righteous stay away, who will lead with integrity?”
He urged Christians to emulate the obedience of Isaac, who willingly submitted to his father Abraham at Mount Moriah during a test of faith.
He added, “We often complain about the state of the nation, but if Christians in politics and civil service were truly representing Christ, Nigeria wouldn’t be in this condition. I urge Christians to allow Christ to work in and through them. Many know the right thing to do but still choose otherwise.
“We are not called to follow the ways of the world; the world should follow us. God places us in positions of influence for a reason, and we must not waste that divine opportunity.”
In his remarks, the Senior Pastor of the host church, known as “The Peculiar People,” Pastor Alex Ogundipe, called on Christians to submit fully to the will of God in order to thrive spiritually.
Pastor Ogundipe encouraged members to offer themselves wholly to Christ, obey His commands, and grow in the knowledge of the Word.
He described the church’s mandate as evangelism-focused, hence its identity as a “Centre for Deliverance Through Evangelism.”
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Chairperson of the Planning Committee, the Special Mother, Margret Ohenhen, noted that the Church as part of its celebration, will on July 19, commission a borehole donated to the Pese Community in Byazhin Across, Kubwa.
The anniversary celebration featured thanksgiving, gift presentations, choir ministrations, and the cutting of a commemorative cake, all in gratitude for God’s faithfulness over the last two decades.
