The Afenifere USA Chapter has expressed deep sadness over the passing of His Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Adetona, GCON, the Awujale of Ijebu Land, who transitioned to eternal glory on July 13, 2025.
According to the organisation, the paramount ruler’s demise marks the end of an era and a significant loss for the Ijebu Kingdom, Ogun State, and beyond.
In a statement on Tuesday, signed by the Chairman of the Afenifere USA Chapter, Dr. Durojaye Odimayo Akinduti, PRO, Dr. Michael Akanni Awosanya, and Secretary, Dr. Bukola Ogundoyin, Oba Adetona was described as a symbol of unity, wisdom, and cultural pride whose legacy transcended Nigeria’s shores.
The group noted that the monarch’s reign was characterised by a commitment to tradition, peace, and development, earning him the love and respect of his people and the wider community.
The Afenifere USA Chapter described Oba Adetona as a custodian of tradition, a promoter of peace, and a bridge between the past and the future for his people.
“His Majesty’s leadership and vision had a profound impact on the Ijebu Kingdom, and his loss will be deeply felt by his family, friends, subjects, and all who value traditional institutions,” Afenifere said.
The group extended its heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, the Traditional Council, the people of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, and to His Excellency, Dapo Abiodun, the governor. They prayed for the monarch’s noble soul to rest in eternal peace and for comfort to be found in the great legacy he leaves behind.
“Oba Adetona’s passing has left a void in the Ijebu Kingdom, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. His impact on the cultural and traditional landscape of Nigeria will be remembered for years to come,” the group said.
