A human rights activist and lawyer, Chief Niyi Aborisade, has declared his intention to contest for Governor of Oyo State in the 2027 general elections.
Aborisade, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that he was seeking to contest the Agodi Government House in Ibadan, Oyo State, to improve its fortunes. He vowed to make the state the envy of others, not only in Nigeria but also in the world.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, Aborisade boasted that he has what it takes to move Oyo State forward if he emerges as governor of the state. According to him, he has a better chance of emerging as the governor of the state among all other aspirants, considering his structures across the 33 local governments of the state.
He said, “I’ve been in different places in the world and I’ve seen how they are running their governments. Oyo State shouldn’t lack certain things. I’ve been a human rights activist for more than 30 years, and I’ve been clamouring for good governance. Now, it is time for me to bring good governance to the people of Oyo State. I’m going to make positive changes. This is the time for positive change for the good people of Oyo State.
“I’m going to emerge, I’m the only candidate that has structures across the 33 local governments of Oyo State, no one has done what I have done. I won’t be a social media governor, because I have physical structures across Oyo State. I have a better chance than all the aspirants.”
When asked if he has the backing of Governor Seyi Makinde, Aborisade said the governor would announce him as the flag bearer of the party in due time, adding that he is better qualified than most of the aspirants. He also said he sees no reason why the governor shouldn’t pick him as the party’s candidate.
“I have the financial muscle to contest with anybody, I have the quality and financial backing, I will be the next governor of Oyo State come 2027. People of the state should wait for good and better governance, they should wait for positive change,” he added.
