Coalition credits Customs reforms for ₦747b Tincan Port performance

The Coalition of Civil Society Networks has credited reforms introduced by Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for the N747.08 billion revenue generated by the Tincan Island Port Command in the first half of 2025.

The organisation said the revenue, which represents a 29.85 per cent increase from N575.36 billion recorded in the same period in 2024, amounted to 98.03 per cent of the command’s projected target for the period.

Its coordinator, Amb. Abdullahi Ibrahim, in a statement on Sunday, said the achievements align perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, particularly his drive to reposition key institutions to foster innovation, prosperity, and economic stability.

The coalition noted that the Customs leadership had prioritised technical competence over personal interest, deployed officers strategically to revenue points, and implemented measures to block leakages and curb economic sabotage.

These actions, it said, improved the business environment at the nation’s ports.

Ibrahim said: “We wish to commend the leadership of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) under the stewardship of the Comptroller-General for the significant strides made in revenue generation, institutional reforms, and contribution to national economic growth. These achievements align perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in his drive to reposition key institutions to foster innovation, prosperity, and economic stability.

“In particular, we celebrate the milestone revenue performance recorded by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Port Command, which generated a remarkable N747.08 billion in the first half of 2025.

“This represents a 29.85 per cent increase compared to the N575.36 billion generated in the same period in 2024, and accounts for an outstanding 98.03 per cent of the command’s projected revenue target. This level of performance reflects the impact of reforms being executed by the Service.

“We commend the Comptroller-General of Customs for prioritising technical competence over personal interest and for deploying officers with the highest level of professionalism to strategic revenue points. This strategy has helped to block leakages, curb economic sabotage, and significantly improve the business-friendly environment at the nation’s ports.”

The Coalition said these developments are in line with its advocacy for responsible governance and encouraged the Customs Service to sustain the momentum.

It urged the Service to sustain the momentum and called on other government agencies to emulate its example by placing national interest above all else.

“As a group, we remain committed to monitoring, supporting, and constructively engaging institutions in their quest for good governance and service delivery,” the coalition added.
