Nigeria’s U20 men’s team, the Flying Eagles, have advanced to the final of the WAFU B U20 Tournament in Ghana, after a dramatic 4–3 penalty shootout victory over Niger Republic on Sunday. The match had ended goalless after 90 minutes.
Despite dominating possession and creating more chances, the Flying Eagles were unable to find the back of the net during regulation time. The first half saw the Nigerian side attempt three shots, all off target, while Niger Republic failed to register any attempt on goal.

In the second half, the defending champions intensified their offensive play but struggled to break down a well-organised Nigerien defence, which often kept seven players behind the ball.
With the deadlock unbroken at full time, the game proceeded to a penalty shootout. Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt saved Niger Republic’s opening penalty, but Nigeria’s Tahir Maigana also missed his spot-kick.
Ultimately, the Flying Eagles held their nerve to convert four of their penalties, while Niger Republic converted only three, handing Nigeria a 4–3 win.
The Flying Eagles will now face the winner of the second semi-final between hosts Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire in the final of the regional championship.
