The Yobe State Government has partnered the World Food Programme (WFP) of United Nation, in the post-insurgency recovery project.
According to the UN agency, the partnership will provide durable solutions to restore the means of livelihoods of the people.
Unveiling the post-insurgency recovery process, recently in Damaturu, the WFP Country Director, David Stevenson, stated, “We congratulated Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration for successfully transiting from humanitarian aid to long-term solutions for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.”
He noted that the durable solutions while implementing the post-insurgency programmes will settle all the IDPs to their communities affected in the 16-year conflict.
Beyond the re-settlement of displaced persons, the Country Director disclosed: “The engagement of youths and women in farming will provide the durable solutions towards sustainable means of livelihoods in the various affected communities.”
Highlighting the significance of durable solutions, he expressed readiness of the UN agency to sustain the partnership with the state government to unlock many opportunities in the agricultural and livestock sectors.
The Director of Mastercard Foundation, Rosy Fynn, also expressed commitment to engage youths, particularly women from the state to benefit from the foundation’s interventions in the country.
Fynn further disclosed, “the Foundation is working on a 30 million job opportunities for youths targeting women beneficiaries in Nigeria.”
While responding, Buni commended WFP for supporting the state government to implement the durable solutions for IDPs across the state. The governor added that he has solicited for a sustained partnership to complement their efforts in the post-insurgency recovery process.
