WAFCON 2024: Tournament award winners

Award Winners: Super Falcons skipper, Rashidat Ajibade emerged as Player of the Tournament while Chiamaka Nnadozie won the Best Goalkeeper golden gloves.

The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) concluded on Saturday night with Nigeria emerging champions after a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final.

The Super Falcons, trailing 2-0 at halftime, mounted a spirited second-half fightback led by Esther Okoronkwo, who converted a penalty and assisted the equaliser scored by Folashade Ijamilusi. Jennifer Echegini sealed the win late in the match, handing Nigeria a record-extending 10th continental title.

Following the final, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) named standout performers across the tournament:

Fair Play Award – South Africa
Best Goalkeeper – Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria)
Golden Boot – Ghizlane Chebbak (Morocco)
Player of the Tournament – Rasheedat Ajibade (Nigeria)
The tournament showcased the growing quality and competitiveness of women’s football on the continent, with Morocco impressing as hosts and Nigeria reaffirming their dominance in African football.
