2007: Group backs Tinubu, says no president invested in Southeast like him

A regional socio-political organisation, known as South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), has adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 election and also pledged to galvanise massive grassroots support for him during the poll.

The group’s National Coordinator, Michael Enwere, disclosed this weekend at the inauguration and empowerment of the Imo State chapter in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Enwere noted that the positive initiative of the President’s administration, particularly the recent approval of the Three Billion Dollar Eastern Rail Line, would reconnect the South East and create jobs in the region.

He said, “Mr. President is making significant federal infrastructural commitments to the South East in the history of the nation. This signals a dramatic policy and economic shift aimed at bridging decades of regional neglect and infrastructure inequality.

“This would be the first time any administration will budget such a huge fund for a South East transport project which, when completed, would slash transport costs, open new export channels, as well as revive dormant industrial zones in the South East region while realigning it with the centre.

“Since the end of the civil war in 1970, the South East has not experienced the extent of investment and attention it is currently getting from the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Enwere hailed the President for the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), noting that the commission would unlock opportunities for regional growth and development, in addition to the South East Investment Company recently established and capitalised with N150 billion for catalysing development and investment in the South East.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is committed to showcasing visionary leadership rooted in inclusivity, progressive governance, and strong institutions. President Tinubu is committed to improving the lives of South Easterners and all Nigerians, enabling them to experience the benefits of Renewed Hope and democratic dividends.”

According to Enwere, from next month, the SERHA would begin to tour the 95 Local Government Areas and 2,344 wards spread across the five states of the South East.

He said, “As we inaugurate the SERHA, Imo State chapter today, we call on all and sundry to join hands with us to re-elect President Tinubu for a second term. This is the turn of Southern Nigeria to complete our eight years.

“We have only one performing President, and the people of the South East will not back out to ensure his victory come 2027.”

Imo State Coordinator, Chief Justus Ogu, in his address earlier, noted that the South East Development Commission (SEDC), if properly managed, would go a long way in addressing infrastructural imbalance prevalent in the zone.

Ogu, who extolled the national officers of the Renewed Hope Agenda for their unshakable commitment to the re-election project, similarly thanked the President for appointing a good number of Igbo sons and daughters into key positions.

He acknowledged that South East students were among the first to access the Federal Government’s student loan initiative launched last year, adding that federal roads in the region were also receiving impressive attention through the continuous funding of the reconstruction projects.

“We are ready and committed to delivering increased support and massive votes for President Tinubu’s re-election,” he said.
