IG orders diversion of traffic around Eagle Square

AS the nation prepares for the handing over ceremony to a new President tomorrow, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has ordered that all routes leading to the Eagle Square, venue of the event, be diverted to strengthen the security around the area.

A statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Emmanuel Ojukwu, said IG Arase gave the orders “as part of preparations for a hitch-free presidential inauguration.”

The IG said the directive is to ensure that “all roads around Eagle Square on Friday, May 29, 2015” be secured as traffic to the venue would be restricted.

He also directed that enhanced security must be sustained in strategic and vulnerable places so as to forestall any unpleasant eventuality, beside the strategic check-points on all entry points and major in-roads in and around the federal capital city.

The statement further said: “He also ordered tight security at Eagle Square, hotels, key and vulnerable places within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as the mounting of Tactical Operation Points on all roads leading into and out of FCT”.
