Bamidele completes test-run for Guinness World Record attempt

Shehu Bamidele has achieved a major milestone in his journey toward making history by successfully completing a non-stop four-day marathon test-run in 8-ball pool, as part of preparations for a Guinness World Record attempt.

The test-run was held from July 10, 2025 to July 13, 2025.

Speaking with journalists, the coordinator, Folajimi Abegunde, said the test run was done to replicate every aspect of the Guinness World Record requirements including, continuous gameplay with structured rest breaks as permitted by Guinness World Record Rules; a 24-hour witness rotation system; real-time digital and manual scorekeeping; and comprehensive measures via video and document evidence collection.

To Abegunde, Bamidele is not only ready to attempt the record, but break the world record with precision.

Abegunde said: “Our target is 120 hours, and in order to know if Bamidele can go all the way, it is important to carry out a test-run. As you can see, Bamidele has demonstrated that it can be done. With what we have seen over the past four days, we are extremely happy.”

He added, “this is a testament to Bamidele’s drive, resilience, tenacity, stamina, grit, and strength of character. By combining these attributes with Bamidele’s skill level, you have all the ingredients for the highest levels of success. I will even go as far as saying Bamidele is an eight-ball pool genius.”

According to Abegunde, beyond athlete performance, the test run has verified the endurance capacity of the player under the conditions stipulated in the Guinness World Record Guidelines; fine-tuned the official procedures for documentation and compliance; strengthened the coordination between volunteers, timekeepers, and medical personnel; and increased public and media engagement in the buildup to the official attempt.

Following the test run’s success, the team is expected to analyse performance data and logistical flow; and implement minor improvements in scheduling, rest strategies, and equipment.

Expressing gratitude to Radisson Blu Hotel, Lagos Ikeja; The DUNKIT, and True Patriot fashion brands; Johnnie Walker; Guinness; Munch IT; Oxford Blue; and Snooker Z, Abegunde disclosed the competition is scheduled to hold between September 2, 2025 and September 7, 2025.

He said the test run proves “we are ready—not just to attempt the record, but break it with Shehu Bamidele’s drive, a meticulous attention to all the extant guidelines, and with the full support of our community.”
