Pratik Panchal’s journey to overcome complex project scheduling challenges and delivering complex projects on time

“Thirteen years in the construction field have taught me that challenges, including delays, can be avoided with the right plan and system,” says Pratik Bhikhubhai Panchal, an experienced civil engineer and lead project scheduler. His career is marked by tackling some of the most complex challenges in construction management and consistently delivering projects on time through careful planning and disciplined execution.

Building Experience and Skills from the Ground Up
Pratik began his career in India as a Project Engineer at Larsen & Toubro, where he worked on one of Mumbai’s tallest buildings. This early experience exposed him to large, high-complexity projects. He later moved to Dubai to join Al Basti & Muktha LLC, where he managed luxury villa and hotel projects. The fast pace and variety of work in Dubai sharpened his scheduling skills and ability to adapt to different project types and geographical challenges.

After nearly five years in Dubai, Pratik moved to Canada, joining Frontier-Kemper Constructors as a scheduling engineer on a Tunnel Project in northern British Columbia. He later worked as a senior scheduler at Carlson Construction Group, overseeing major infrastructure work, including a liquefied natural gas facility. Pratik also contributed to projects with Stantec, expanding his experience to transportation and wastewater treatment.

Through these roles, he learned the importance of effective scheduling for project success. A 2024 study in the International Journal of Applied Research in Social Sciences supports this, showing that strong scheduling practices improve coordination and productivity. Pratik recognized this early and made it a priority to master advanced scheduling techniques.

Adapting Strategies to Meet Global Challenges
The construction sector faces a tight labor market, as reported in Deloitte’s 2024 Engineering and Construction Industry Outlook. Pratik responds with data-driven strategies that fit each project’s needs. In Dubai, he introduced just-in-time material delivery and optimized crew rotations to keep work moving.

In Canada’s remote and harsh environments, he incorporated geotechnical data into his plans, helping teams anticipate and address delays caused by underground conditions.

Pratik finds practical solutions to keep projects on track, consistently improving efficiency, risk mitigation, and execution certainty. At Carlson Construction Group, he secured a 320-day extension, averted $32 million in liquidated damages, and helped win $58 million in new contracts. At Stantec, he saved $33 million and cut 180 days of critical path delay by streamlining contract interfaces and introducing collaborative delivery methods. His strategic foresight and technical rigor set new benchmarks for project controls and claims management.

Among his most notable contributions, Pratik developed scalable scheduling and claims management frameworks at Al Basti & Muktha LLC that saved millions and set company-wide standards. At Dragados-USA, he applied AI-powered analytics and a stakeholder coordination model, reducing RFIs by 25% and helping keeping the project on track. His leadership and technical skills have consistently improved project outcomes and set new industry standards for complex infrastructure delivery.

“Sustainability is part of the schedule, and I make sure it’s built into the earliest planning stages,” he explains.
Preparing Young Engineers for the Future
Pratik invests time in mentoring and training his team members, helping them build the skills needed for future construction projects. He shares his knowledge of advanced scheduling, risk modeling, and stakeholder alignment, giving young engineers the tools to contribute to project success.

His leadership has brought him recognition, including serving as a judge for the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards in Leadership and receiving a Global Recognition Award for Leadership in Project Excellence. These honors reflect his role in delivering complex infrastructure projects on time and his contributions to the field.

Pratik’s journey highlights how adaptability and careful planning can address complex challenges in construction project delivery. Over the years, he has used data-driven strategies and practical scheduling frameworks that respond to real-world conditions. Through technology, teamwork, and high standards, Pratik Panchal continues to help shape the future of project management and deliver results that matter.
