Three suspected kidnappers have reportedly been killed, while one escaped with gunshot wounds when they engaged men of the Western Security Networks codenamed Amotekun Corps in Otu community, Itesiwaju Local Council of Oyo State.
The criminals, who were said to be on a mission in the area, were spotted by local hunters after they had invaded the community four days earlier and kidnapped a resident. The development created tension in the community which necessitated the invitation of Amotekun Corps.
Amotekun reportedly responded promptly and engaged the armed kidnappers in a gun duel. During the confrontation, three of the kidnappers were reportedly gunned down, while one managed to escape with the victim.
Sources confirmed that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing assailant and rescue the victim.
The Guardian gathered that the matter had been formally reported to the Police Division in Otu for further investigation and coordinated response.
