A Fitness Walk with the theme: “Promoting Healthy Living in Falolu and Environs” was organized by the Christian Social Responsibility arm of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Garden of Peace, Region 52 headquarters, under the auspices of the Pastor in charge of the Region, Samuel Olaniyan.
The event that brought together a large number of the Church members as well as members of the community which include Chairman, Fefooraad Community Development Association (CDA), Abel Oluwaseun and Chairman, Falolu Residents Association, Ademuyiwa Dina took place at Oyewunmi Junction, Falolu road.
Olaniyan at the event said a call was made to the residents of the area to join the fitness walk with their brothers, sisters, friends and family for improved healthy living lifestyle.
“This is one of the salient things we have done here today. We started with exercise, which is healthy living to tell our people that it shouldn’t be about hospital alone.
“We are using this event to let them know that when you are exercising yourself, you are doing what is right because you will be living a healthy life.
“Subsequently, we will make it more structured to make it more interesting for many residents to participate. Henceforth, we will make use of a school nearby to avoid traffic and distractions” he said.
Olaniyan said another event that took place was the numbering of Falolu street to further let the residents feel the impact of the presence of the Church in their midst which was done after consultation with the CDA heads.
He hinged this on the fact that some of the houses do not have number while some numbers have faded.
He remarked that some houses objected to the numbering probably because of the logo of the Church on the number plate.
He attributed the success of the programmes to the importance the Church accords CSR.
Oluwaseun on behalf of the entire community expressed appreciation for both spiritual and social impact of the Church on the community and specially gave kudos to Olaniyan for his exemplary leadership style and asked other Church leaders in the community to follow suit.
Dina lauded both the physical exercise and the street numbering and described the presence of Church in their midst a plus, adding that the Church has been contributing to the progress of the community in diverse ways.
After the walkout, the team went into streets to number the buildings on each street after consultation with the CDA heads. Olaniyan said the numbering is to further let the residents feel the impact of the presence of the church.
