Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted significant shipments of cocaine and Tramadol concealed in vehicle side mirrors at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, meant for export to Libreville, Gabon.
The operation led to the arrest of at least three suspects linked to the shipments, the Agency revealed in a statement.
On July 19, 2025, authorities seized 57,420 pills of Tramadol (225mg) and 57 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.60 kg from a cargo consignment going to Gabon on Air Côte d’Ivoire.
The cargo agent, Ihekweme Osinachi Benedict, was immediately arrested, and follow-up investigations resulted in the arrest of another suspect, Uzochukwu Godspower Chukwurah, on July 20.
Further searches at Uzochukwu’s residence led to the recovery of 11 parcels of cocaine weighing 1 kg, bringing the total cocaine seizure to 68 parcels weighing 2.60 kg.
In a separate case, businesswoman Nwafor Roseann Nneka was arrested on August 1 after 100 grams of cocaine and 300 grams of phenacetine, a cutting agent, were intercepted concealed in lipsticks destined for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Two cargo agents linked to this shipment were arrested prior to Nneka’s capture.
Also, NDLEA operatives executed intelligence-led operations in Abuja on July 30, arresting three dispatch riders for distributing 149.8 grams of cannabis.
More related arrests were made on August 2 in the FCT and Lagos, with various quantities of cannabis and other drugs seized.
On August 1, significant seizures were made, including 100,000 pills of Tramadol in Benue State and 233.5 kg of skunk in Edo State.
Additional arrests across Borno and Ogun States have resulted in the capture of other suspects with various illegal substances.
The NDLEA has also engaged in ongoing sensitisation efforts against drug abuse, conducting educational programs in schools and communities nationwide.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Marwa, praised the officers for their dedication and encouraged continued efforts in the Agency’s drug control initiatives.
