• To enforce rules on public roadways, communal safety
Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has sealed the premises of Vaniti Club House, strategically located on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, over prolonged and deliberate violation of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
This decisive enforcement action, personally led by General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, and meticulously executed by the agency’s rescue and compliance unit, follows the club’s consistent and defiant breaches of established traffic laws, particularly its continuous facilitation of illegal roadside parking and blatant encroachment upon public highways.
These actions have not only disrupted traffic flow but have also posed significant risks to public safety. A statement by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, emphasised that the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, clearly proscribes any act that obstructs vehicular movement or endangers the safety of road users, categorising such behaviour as a serious statutory offence subject to legal sanctions.
“Despite extensive awareness efforts, including public enlightenment campaigns, stakeholders’ engagements, and multiple official warnings the management of Vaniti Club House has remained obstinate, choosing to continue actions that undermine the operational integrity of the state’s traffic system, particularly within the high-traffic corridor of Victoria Island.
“As a result, the state government has exercised its full regulatory authority to indefinitely seal the premises. This directive will remain in place until the establishment demonstrates complete and verifiable compliance with all existing traffic laws and related regulatory frameworks.”
“This enforcement initiative is not a one-time event. It signifies the start of a broader and ongoing compliance campaign. We are actively monitoring other clubs, event centres, lounges, and recreational facilities, especially those that persist in obstructing traffic flow by using public roads and adjacent streets for private purposes,” he said.
Similarly, Lagos State government, through LASTMA, has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards any individual, corporation, or social enterprise that hinders traffic orderliness or jeopardise public safety.
Residents and commuters are, therefore, urged to report any non-compliant event centres, lounges, clubs, or similar establishments that obstruct free passage or create a public nuisance to LASTMA through its dedicated toll-free emergency hotline
The state government, however, remains firmly committed to promoting a safe, disciplined, and effectively regulated traffic environment, in line with its broader vision of a world-class, livable urban landscape.
