Obi offers Nigeria model of selfless leadership — Peter Ameh

As political conversations intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, former IPAC Chairman Chief Peter Ameh has strongly endorsed former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, describing him as a rare model of moral discipline, selflessness, and visionary leadership.

In a fiery appearance on a national talk show, Ameh declared that Nigeria stands at a crossroads—and that Obi represents not just a candidate, but a new political culture built on accountability, integrity, and sacrificial service.

“Peter Obi is not just another politician—he’s a man who has conquered greed,” said Ameh. “In this country where people are desperate to cling to power, here is a man saying, ‘Give me just four years, and I will show you a new Nigeria.’ That is powerful.”

Ameh took time to dismantle criticisms suggesting Obi’s one-term pledge was a political gimmick. He insisted the former Anambra governor’s declaration was deeply rooted in personal conviction and national interest—not electoral calculations.

“This is not a statement made in the corner of a bedroom,” he emphasised. “Peter Obi has said it openly, with clarity: one term. He wants to lay a solid foundation and mentor a new generation of leaders.”

Quoting Section 135 of the Nigerian Constitution, Ameh clarified that candidates are guaranteed only one term, with a second term being subject to revalidation by the electorate. He said Obi’s promise was a refreshing break from the “perpetual power syndrome” that has plagued Nigerian politics.

“People think leadership is about doing two terms. But if you fail in four years, why should you be rewarded with another term? Leadership is about impact, not duration,” Ameh said.

He also addressed claims that Obi lacks appeal in Northern Nigeria, pointing instead to the 1.4 million votes he secured in the North Central in 2023 and the growing grassroots support in the Northeast and Northwest.

“Don’t be deceived by the 2023 numbers. The political understanding in the North has shifted. The trust that gave Tinubu support in 2023 is gone. The North is not blind—they see Peter Obi’s sincerity and are rallying behind him,” he added.

On the issue of alliances, Ameh confirmed that Obi is being actively courted by opposition parties, including the PDP, ahead of the 2027 elections.

“It’s no secret. Parties want a credible candidate. And today, Peter Obi is topping every conversation,” he revealed.
Ameh slammed the wasteful spending and poor economic priorities of the current administration, accusing it of failing the people.

“You can’t be buying private jets and SUVs when people can’t eat. How can we have 100% recurrent spending and less than 30% capital expenditure? That’s not leadership—it’s a mockery of governance.”

He urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to see Peter Obi’s character as a blueprint for future leadership.

“Obi’s commitment to one term is not weakness—it’s leadership by example. We must create a new generation of politicians who keep their word, who don’t grab ballot boxes, who serve, not steal.”

As 2027 draws nearer, Ameh believes the time has come for Nigerians to rally around a leader of character.

“This country needs a reset—and Peter Obi is the reset button. Four years with him is more valuable than eight years with those who do nothing. He is not looking for power. He is offering a plan to save Nigeria.”
