Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has directed the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) to recruit gatemen for all primary and junior secondary schools in the state.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Board Secretary, Dr Uzoamaka Amah-Mbah, on behalf of the Executive Chairman.
According to the statement, the recruitment is aimed at preventing encroachment and vandalism in schools, with particular focus on ensuring the safety of pupils and students.
Interested applicants are to obtain forms from the ASUBEB headquarters, offices of the local government education authorities (LGEAs), or local government areas (LGAs) across the state.
“Completed applications must be returned to the respective offices by the deadline of August 22, 2025. Acknowledgement copies should be received upon submission. Only candidates who meet the pre-qualification criteria will be announced at a later date,” the statement said.
It added that applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 65, reside in Abia State, and provide copies of their National Identification Number (NIN), voter’s card, and ABSIN number as proof of identity and residency.
“Failure to provide credible guarantors as outlined on the form will result in disqualification. Applicants may be assigned to day or night duties,” it stated.
The statement noted that the recruitment exercise is part of efforts to strengthen security in public schools and safeguard students’ welfare.
