Appoints boards for NCC, USPF
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Chisom Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.
Obih’s appointment fills a vacancy created by the death of a council member.
The President also named Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, a renowned communications scholar, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
A former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, Akinfeleye chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography, as well as UNILAG Radio 103.1 FM and Television.
In a related development, President Tinubu has appointed Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.
Other principal officers named are Mr Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as bursar, and Dr Shehu Aminu Liman as librarian.
Yakasai, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel, is Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, and chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria.
He is also a Governing Council member of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
ALSO, President Tinubu has approved the constitution of the boards of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), both under the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
Idris Olorunnimbe was named Chairman of the NCC, while Dr. Aminu Wada retains his role as Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer.
Wada was appointed in October 2023 and confirmed by the Senate the following month.
The President also reconstituted the USPF Board with Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, as Chairman, and Olorunnimbe as Vice Chairman.
Other members are: Oshidami; Makama; Aliyu Edogi Aliyu (representative, FMCIDE); Joseph B. Faluyi (representative, Federal Ministry of Finance); Auwal Mohammed (representative, FMBNP); Uzoma Dozie; Peter Bankole; Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon; Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri; and the USPF Secretary.
The USPF was established to expand access to information and communication technologies in rural, unserved and underserved areas across Nigeria.
