Akanbi tasks govt on electricity supply as church begins conference

As the God’s Mercy Revival Ministries (GOMERM), Ikotun, Lagos begins its yearly Zion Power Conference with the topic: “Divine Supernatural,” from August 19 to 21, 2025 at its Mercy Revival Centre, Idimu-Ikotun Road, Ikotun, its General Overseer, James Akanbi, has called on the Federal Government to improve the nation’s electricity supply so that small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) can thrive, adding that this challenge has made to SMEs operators idle.

Speaking on the church’s 2025 Zion Power Conference, he noted for any economy to grow the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) must increase and positively impact on small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).

He said: “The SMEs is the engine room of any economy. But how will the small and medium scale enterprises thrive in Nigeria where there is no regular electricity power supply? All small organisations need regular energy to thrive and survive. How will you buy diesel at the current rate and expect to make decent progress and profits? Isn’t that breaking down businesses? All the talks about boosting the economy are just talks because any policy that cannot impact the small scales cannot boost the GDP of a nation. And if electricity and energy are having problems, then forget about economic growth and development. To revamp Nigeria’s dwindling economy, government should assist small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).”

On what inspired him to organise the conference yearly, Akanbi disclosed that he was inspired by God’s vision, emphasising that the church has always followed God’s vision in everything it does.

He said: “Zion Power Conference was by vision. Our campground was by vision. There is nothing that we do here by ambition or by copying. Sometime in March 2000, I saw in a vision a flyer that was faced down, I picked it up and on it was written, ‘God’s Mercy Revival Ministry Power Conference Year 2000.’ An old man came closer and asked me, what is that in your hand? I showed him the flyer, and he said to me that will be the yearly name of the coming together of all of the sons and daughters in the ministry. That was how the conference started.”

Urging participants to come and experience the supernatural, Akanbi disclosed ministers to feature on the three-dayprogramme to include, Pastor Johnson Odesola of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG); Pastor Isaac Omoleyin; Pastor Samson Ajetumobi from Ibadan; and Rev. Dan Akingbelure, among others.
