Kano by-election: APC defeats NNPP, reclaims Ghari/Tsanyawa seat

The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the Saturday bye-election for Ghari/Tsanyawa state constituency.

APC candidate Ya’u Garba Gwarmai defeated his closest rival and NNPP candidate Muhammed Yusuf Ali to reclaim the seat at the state House of Assembly.

Announcing the results at the state INEC headquarters, collation centre for the constituency, in the early hours of Sunday, the returning officer, Professor Mohammed Yusuf Waziri, declared the APC candidate winner with 31,472 votes. APC Gwarmai won over the NNPP candidate, who scored 27,931 votes.

The Ghari/Tsanyawa seat in the State Assembly was left vacant after the general election, which produced the NNPP candidate was declared inconclusive.
