Peter Obi hails Sam Ohuabunwa at 75

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has paid glowing tribute to elder statesman and pharmaceutical industry icon, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, as he marked his 75th birthday alongside a public book launch in Umuahia, Abia State.

Obi described Ohuabunwa as “a beacon of vision, discipline, and patriotism,” noting that his career and life represent one of the finest examples of integrity-driven leadership in Nigeria’s corporate and public space.

“Ohuabunwa’s story is one of courage and character. From his humble beginnings as a salesperson at Pfizer, he rose through diligence and discipline to become CEO, before spearheading the historic $300 million management buyout that gave birth to Neimeth Pharmaceuticals,” Obi recalled. “That singular act preserved jobs and deepened indigenous participation in the pharmaceutical sector.”

Beyond corporate success, Obi praised Ohuabunwa’s venture into politics, driven by his conviction that Nigeria can be rebuilt on competence, productivity, and visionary leadership.

“Though he encountered the harsh realities of transactional politics, he never wavered in his belief in the Nigeria that is possible. His life reminds younger generations that true leadership is measured not only by positions held but by values upheld and impact made,” Obi said.

He stressed that celebrating Ohuabunwa at 75 was not just about marking a milestone, but about honouring an enduring legacy of service and patriotism.

“I wish him continued health, wisdom, and fulfilment. More importantly, I pray that his vision for a just, productive, and prosperous Nigeria will find full expression in the new Nigeria we must all work to build,” Obi said.
