The member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Dr. Alex Egbona, has sounded an alarm over the deplorable state of roads in his constituency.
Dr. Egbona, who is also an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, stated that although the governor has constructed some roads in parts of the state, the Abi people are in dire need of improved road infrastructure.
He emphasised that in Abi, particularly, state roads are not only impassable but a disaster which needs immediate attention.
“I must commend the state governor for doing roads in some parts of the state, like Ogoja, Odukpani and even in Yakurr.
“However, in Abi, the Bahumono people cannot enter Bahumono because of the nature of the road.
“Even where I come from, Ekureku, the Ekureku Ring Road is impassable and a disaster. There is no road infrastructure at all.
“If you are entering Bahumono through Ugep to Usumotong and Ebom, there is no road. If you take the Ndibe axis, there is no road. Presently, inhabitants of that area who stay in Calabar cannot even enter there,” he said.
He appealed for the governor’s immediate intervention in this regard and also requested the government to inspect the area.
On the plans by opposition parties, particularly the PDP and ADC, to dislodge the APC-led government in the state, he said the parties cannot do so.
He also said his party, the APC, is not going to underrate the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections because “in politics, you don’t underrate anybody.”
