When Chinedu Abanobi, Managing Director of Fieldbase Services Limited, took the stage at the 2025 Stakeholder Event in Lagos, it wasn’t only to simply to welcome attendees, it was to reframe how Africa’s infrastructure story is told. His keynote, “Fieldbase: Today and Tomorrow,” traced the company’s evolution from a nimble engineering outfit closing offshore connectivity gaps to a multi-country solutions provider driving digital transformation across industries.

Founded in 2018, Fieldbase began with hands-on installations and support for the maritime and oil & gas sectors. Today, it operates across key countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, Togo, and the UK, supporting more than 300 vessels and offshore platforms, serving over 4,500 enterprise clients, and delivering critical systems in some of Africa’s most demanding environments.

Abanobi’s presentation wasn’t just a retrospective; it was a forward-looking blueprint. He outlined strategic priorities that push beyond traditional connectivity:

Expanding rural and community Wi-Fi networks to close the digital divide

Enabling telemedicine infrastructure for primary healthcare in underserved regions

Integrating smart monitoring technologies for construction and infrastructure projects

EFN Non Oil Export

Strengthening partnerships with global OEMs while executing with local expertise

“Our mission has never been about selling bandwidth,” Abanobi told the audience. “It’s about building the digital foundation on which industries and communities can grow reliably, securely, and at scale.”

That vision resonated throughout the day, setting the tone for sessions that brought together industry leaders from SpaceX, Druid Software, Equinix, Redtech, and Fieldbase’s own engineering teams. It reinforced a simple truth: Africa’s infrastructure challenges are real, but so is its capacity for innovation especially when local execution works hand in hand with global collaboration.
