Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have intercepted an unregistered vehicle conveying crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as ‘ice’, along with other hard drugs.

The substances were discovered during a stop-and-search operation led by ASP Amos Ayuba at Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore Local Council. Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, disclosed that the vehicle carried a fake number plate allegedly stolen from another car. He said the incident underscored the importance of routine checkpoints and stop-and-search exercises in crime prevention.

Lawal directed a statewide clampdown on unmarked vehicles, cars with covered number plates, unauthorised dealer plates, and motorcyclists using masks or face coverings. “All suspects connected with the case are now in custody while investigations continue,” he said.

Earlier, the police chief met with representatives of commercial motorcyclists across the state to sensitise them on the new measures. He warned that any attempt to use motorcycles as a cover for crime would be met with strict enforcement, while sharing his personal contact with their leadership to encourage confidential intelligence sharing.

According to him, intelligence reports indicated that criminals had been infiltrating communities with unmarked vehicles and disguised motorcyclists to evade detection.

Lawal reassured residents of their safety, pledging that the command would operate with professionalism, discipline and accountability, in line with the policing vision of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The command also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant security agencies.
