Police arrest five for sexually asaulting minor in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five men, all above 40 years, for allegedly raping a minor in Misau Local Council of the state.

Police spokesman, CSP Ahmed Wakil, said in a statement yesterday that the suspects admitted to the offence, which occurred at different times and locations.

He added that on August 12, Yusuf Muhammad and Dun’juma Muhammad reported at Misau Divisional Headquarters that the suspects: Sulaiman Adamu, 42; Umar Adamu, 45; Musa Ibrahim, 40; Shu’aibu Abubakar, 47; all of Zadawa village, Misau Local Council, lured the victim with money and sexually abused her. The statement also referenced a fifth suspect, Muhammad Sunusi.

According to Wakil, detectives were immediately dispatched upon receipt of the report. “They evacuated the victim to Federal Medical Centre, Misau, for medical examination, while the alleged suspects were arrested for investigation.”

He said the suspects confessed during interrogation. A medical examination at the Federal Medical Centre, Misau, indicated evidence consistent with sexual assault.

Wakil added that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, to conduct a thorough investigation and charge the suspects to court, vowing that the command would leave no stone unturned.
