The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 25-year-old newlywed businessman at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, after he allegedly ingested 72 wraps of cocaine in an attempt to traffic the drug to Portugal.

The suspect, identified as Lovely Chukwulobelu, was intercepted at the airport’s departure hall on Thursday, September 25, 2026, while preparing to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Portugal via Addis Ababa.
NDLEA said the suspect was placed under observation and subsequently excreted all 72 wraps of cocaine.
The agency said Chukwulobelu, who lives in Portugal, told investigators that he previously operated a car decoration business at the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos, before relocating to Portugal in May 2023.

He reportedly returned to Nigeria recently and got married on September 13, 2026. According to the NDLEA, he said he turned to drug trafficking to offset expenses incurred during his wedding.
NDLEA Seizes 2.55m Opioid Pills in Lagos.

At the import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, NDLEA operatives seized 2.55 million pills of Tramaking 225mg, Tramaking 250mg and Royal Tapentadol 250mg during the examination of three monitored consignments.

The agency said the consignments, weighing 1,640.55kg in total, were imported from India and Bangladesh through Qatar Airways, RwandAir and Ethiopian Airlines.
NDLEA described the seizure as one of its biggest opioid interceptions of the year.
Cannabis Seizures in Bauchi, Edo.

In Bauchi State, NDLEA officers arrested Umar Hamidu, 35, and Abdulkarim Salihu, 45, along the Maiduguri bypass with 300 compressed blocks of cannabis weighing 262.5kg.
The agency said the cannabis, locally known as skunk, was concealed in the false bottom of a truck with registration number MUB757 YH.

In Edo State, NDLEA operatives, supported by soldiers, destroyed two cannabis farms at Eko Camp, Ilushi, with a combined estimated yield of 1,360.23kg.
More Arrests, Seizures in Lagos.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested two women, Odumabo Kehinde, 36, and Obiekwe Chioma, 40, during a raid on Anifowoshe Street, Mushin, on Saturday, September 26.
The agency said 3.4kg of cannabis was recovered from the suspects.
In a separate operation at Ebute-Ero Motor Park, NDLEA officers arrested a 58-year-old man, Ugwu Johnson, with 5.920kg of cannabis, 2,400 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 8,400 tablets of nitrazepam and 40,000 pills of tramadol.

NDLEA Arrests Two Togolese Over Cannabis Trafficking
In Oyo State, two Togolese nationals, Yinusa Abdulsamad, 35, and Fatai Baba, 33, were arrested along the Iganna-Ilero Road, Iganna, with 305.6kg of cannabis.
NDLEA said the suspects allegedly concealed the cannabis in two pickup vans used to move Ghanaian-sourced cannabis into Nigeria through the Oyo axis.

At the Seme border in Badagry, Lagos, five suspects were also arrested with 420 cartons of nitrous oxide, popularly known as laughing gas, weighing 1,688.4kg.
The suspects were identified as Kingsley John, 40; John Chibuike Okeke, 44; Lamidi Ismaila, 40; Babatunde Samuel, 42; and Afeesu Idowu, 47.

The agency also seized two vehicles allegedly used to transport the consignment from the border into Lagos.
NDLEA Steps Up Drug Abuse Campaign.

Meanwhile, NDLEA commands and formations across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities.
The agency said recent campaigns were held at Community High School, Saki, Oyo State; Auchi College, Auchi, Edo State; Alkali Modibbo Islamic Centre, Dukku, Gombe State; and Junior Arabic Secondary School, Kahu, Kibiya Local Government Area, Kano State.

The Delta Ports Command also paid a WADA advocacy visit to the Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended personnel involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the agency’s approach to drug control.
He specifically commended the MMIA, AIIA, Lagos, Oyo, Edo, Seme and Bauchi commands for the seizures and arrests.
