•Ojo joins race to unseat incumbent
The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, has said that lawmakers are impressed by the performance of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and are ready to support his re-election agenda.
He stated this on Thursday at the governor’s office in Ado-Ekiti, where the governor received his Expression of Interest and Nomination Form from the global leadership of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Alumni Association Solidarity Group.
The EKSU Alumni, earlier in the week, purchased the forms for the governor at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja, a gesture many described as unique.
In his remarks at the event, Aribasoye described Oyebanji as a man of vision and strategic thinking, adding that he has won the hearts of politicians and the masses with his integrity and amiable conduct.
According to him, it was quite impressive that various groups made attempts to purchase the form for the sitting governor about the same period, saying that this attests to the value attached to him and the level of faith the populace has in him.
Aribasoye pointed out that the excellent performance of the governor in critical sectors has given him the edge in the current Ekiti political space.
The Speaker, who said he got superlative feedback about Oyebanji many times he travelled outside the state, noted that the governor is a marketable and sellable political product, calling on party members to ensure the product is well projected for continuity and electoral victory.
Meanwhile, the governor, in his speech, vowed to resist any move by some political gladiators to cause a crisis within the party, noting that their purported ambition was not targeted at the peace and progress of the party and the state in general.
HOWEVER, ahead of the Ekiti State governorship poll, a chieftain of the ruling APC, Kayode Ojo, has thrown his hat into the ring to vie for the exalted seat of the state.
The former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Kolawole Adefemi, procured the N50 million Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on his behalf yesterday at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.
Flanked by Mrs Monica Adesola Olajuyigbe (nee Adekunle Fajuyi), and a horde of supporters, Adefemi explained that Ojo’s blueprint for Ekiti State is a bold and transformative vision aimed at creating a distinct economic identity that positions the state as a global destination.
