Gani Adams tasks Kwara, Kogi governors on insecurity

AARE Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State and his Kogi counterpart, Ahmed Ododo, to create state security outfits, like the Amotekun, to combat the increasing attacks by bandits on the two states.

Adams said such a security setup would greatly complement the federal security structure in both states. Speaking at the 2025 edition of the Kakanfo Festival in Ifo, Ogun State, he observed that such efforts would check the incursion of bandits into the Southwest region through the two states.

Adams stressed that if something was not done urgently to address the situation, it would degenerate to a level where it would negatively affect the economic nerves of the nation.

In a critical assessment of the security situation in the country, the traditional chieftaincy holder submitted that the level of insecurity across the country has reached an alarming level, with many citizens unable to go about their daily activities without fear. He said insecurity has become a matter deserving an urgent response from the government at all levels.

His words: “The safety and security of Nigerians are fundamental to the prosperity, stability, and development of this nation. Without peace and security, our efforts towards economic growth, social cohesion, and democratic governance will continuously be severely undermined.”

“Today, insecurity manifests in incidents of banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, communal clashes and the like. The recent attacks by suspected bandits in the Babanla area of Kwara State, leading to loss of lives, are a fresh reminder of the urgent need to put a stop to all shades of insecurity across the land.”

In his remarks, the Gbonka Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Mogaji Gboyega Adejumo, highlighted the impacts made by past occupants of the Aare Ona Kakanfo stool across Yorubaland and indeed, Nigeria, noting that the occupants have been great contributors to the development of the society.

He listed Aare Ona Kakanfo Toyeje, Aare Ona Kakanfo Afonja, Aare Ona Kakanfo Oyalabi, Aare Ladoke Akintola, and Aare Ona Kakanfo MKO Abiola as some of the past occupants who cannot be forgotten.

He also praised Iba Adams for his commitment to cultural revival and promotion, defending Yorubaland, and fighting for peace and unity in the region since his installation.

Speaking at the Kakanfo festival, the Olu of Orile Ifoland, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, said it stood as a vibrant testament to the rich heritage, valour, and the enduring spirit of the Yoruba people.
