The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has appointed Ibiwoye Rachel Oluwatosin as the Acting National President of the union.
Her appointment follows the indefinite suspension of Comrade David Nosa, the former Acting National President, over alleged misconduct and constitutional breaches.
According to the NEC, Nosa’s suspension was based on several infractions, including his failure to implement Central Working Committee (CWC) and NEC resolutions, altering decisions by declaring himself substantive president despite only holding an acting position, and introducing a non-CWC member into an official meeting for personal reasons.
He was also accused of unilaterally relieving an authorised CWC administrator of duty, refusing to implement reconciliation resolutions involving Comrade Damola (President) and the Acting General Secretary, and boycotting NEC activities.
The NEC described these actions as violations of collective leadership, transparency, and due process, which form the bedrock of AUATON’s constitution.
With her appointment, Oluwatosin is expected to foster unity, strengthen internal democracy, and advance the welfare of app-based transporters across the country.
Reacting to the development, AUATON Lagos State Council’s Public Relations Officer, Iwindoye Steven, congratulated the new Acting National President, describing her emergence as “timely and well-deserved.”
“Oluwatosin has shown loyalty, dedication, and competence in service to our union. We are confident she will take AUATON to greater heights. We wish her strength, wisdom, and courage in this new responsibility,” he said.
The Lagos State Council, alongside other state councils, pledged full support to the new leadership as the union continues its struggle for justice, dignity, and fair treatment of e-hailing drivers nationwide.
