Nigeria is among the 66 countries currently hunting for tickets to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games at the World Boxing Championships being held in Liverpool, England.

Although the number of boxers representing Nigeria in World Boxing’s first major championship is yet unknown, The Guardian learnt that the country’s delegation to the event is led by Nigeria Boxing Federation’s (NBF) Secretary General, Dapo Akinyele.

The quest for the tickets began yesterday, with 540 boxers from 66 countries fighting for fame and the tickets.

The competition is the biggest ever Olympic-style boxing event held in Great Britain, and includes 17 medallists from Paris 2024, and more than 30 boxers who competed at the most recent Olympic Games.

It is featuring action in 10 weight classes for men and women, with 80 medals being handed out, including 20 golds.

Apart from Nigeria, other countries in the draw are Albania, Algeria, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Czechia, Denmark, and the Dominican Republic among others.
