Bandits don’t profile targets, says Radda

APC tackles Zamfara gov over terrorists’ location remarks
Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Radda, has called for a united front by stakeholders to address the problem of insecurity, irrespective of religious, ethnic, or political affiliation.

Radda was speaking when he flagged off a statewide prayer session yesterday, geared at making supplications for divine intervention in the state’s security challenges.

The prayer sessions brought together key stakeholders, including Ulamas, Jumaat Imams, traditional rulers, and representatives of faith-based organisations from across the state. The governor noted that insecurity recognises no tribe, religion, or political party, and therefore requires unity, patience, and wisdom to overcome.

BUT the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Dauda Lawal, describing his recent remarks on knowing the movements of bandits as an admission of failure by his administration to protect lives and property.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the opposition party in the state said the governor should stop trading blame, and instead focus on fulfilling his campaign promise to end banditry within two months of assuming office.

The APC further faulted Lawal for allegedly neglecting to deploy the state-backed Community Protection Guard, despite equipping and arming them, accusing him of shifting responsibility to the Federal Government.

The development came in the wake of the establishment of a Standing Committee to support victims of banditry attacks across the state.

Responsibilities of the committee include providing emergency relief and sympathy visits to victims within 48 hours of any attack.

The panel will conduct thorough assessments to determine the level and type of losses — including lost lives, displaced persons, destroyed properties, farms, and other assets.

It is also to recommend both medium and long-term strategies to rebuild lives and prevent recurrence, collaborate with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and submitt periodic reports to the Secretary of the State Government.

The Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni Masamar Mudi, is chairman of the committee, while the Speaker, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Isma’il Moriki, will serve as vice chairman.
