The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has launched the Human Resources (HR) Leadership Academy, aimed at equipping HR professionals with the skills, mindset, and global perspective needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving business landscape.
President of CIPM, Ladan Gobir, said the academy is aimed at redefining the future of human resources management in Nigeria and across Africa.
Quoting statistics from the World Economic Forum that over one billion people would need to be reskilled by 2030 to remain relevant in the workplace, he said in Nigeria, 70 per cent of organisations already acknowledged that continuous learning was no longer optional but the heartbeat of competitiveness.
Noting that we live in a world where skills have a shelf life of just three to five years, he explained that the academy was born out of deep reflection and recognition of a pressing gap in the professional space.
He said the institute was not just training professionals but would be shaping leaders who, in turn, would shape nations.
Unveiling the HR Leadership Academy logo, Chairman of the occasion, Victor Eburajolo, noted that with the world in an era of constant change, disruption, and innovation, one thing remained constant, which he said was continuous learning.
“With this Academy, CIPM has created a beacon of knowledge and excellence that will empower HR professionals to rise above challenges and guide organisations into the future”, he said.
The Guest Speaker and past president of the institute, Dr Abiola Popoola, noted that today’s workplace demands more than technical competence.
According to him, it requires adaptive leadership, global awareness, and the ability to foster cultures of innovation. He said the academy would not only prepare professionals for reality but also position them to shape policy, drive organisational competitiveness, and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
He further highlighted that the academy would help bridge the gap between theory and practice by combining rigorous academic standards with real-world applications.
“This is not just about learning for learning’s sake said. It is about equipping HR professionals with skills that have immediate relevance and long-term impact,” he said.
Coordinator of the Academy, Dr. Muyiwa Oludayo, said with a vision to be the leading institution for advancing HR excellence through education, research, and innovation, and a mission to empower HR professionals with cutting-edge skills, the academy was set to redefine human resource practice in Nigeria.
