Ogun: Excitement as Ilisan-Ilara-Akaka-Ode-Remo road nears completion

Residents of Ilisan, Ilara, Akaka, and Ode-Remo in Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas of Ogun State are set to enjoy improved connectivity as construction on the Ilisan-Ilara-Akaka-Ode-Remo road nears completion.

The over 12-kilometre road project, awarded to Still Earth Construction and Realty Ltd by the state government, has seen significant progress, with drainage works, earthworks, and asphalt laying largely completed. Asphalt has already been laid from Ode-Remo to Akaka and from Ilisan through Ilara to Akaka.

Speaking during a media tour of the project, the Regent of Akaka, Engr. Bola Awoderu, expressed gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for prioritising the reconstruction of the long-neglected road.

“As a community, we are very happy with Governor Abiodun, particularly for this road because it had been in a deplorable state for many years. Its poor condition had pushed Akaka into near extinction — people could not come here, farmers could not transport their produce, and our markets had virtually collapsed,” he said.

Awoderu praised the governor for fulfilling his campaign promise and noted that the road is not merely being rehabilitated but fully reconstructed.

He added that the project, alongside a World Bank-supported Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAMP) road leading into farmlands, would help farmers bring produce to market and revive economic activities.

The Regent also commended the governor for approving a satellite campus of the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, to be located in the community, describing it as another catalyst for development.

“Once that polytechnic starts operation, more people will come into the town. We are really grateful to the governor for these three major projects happening simultaneously,” he added.

Chairman of the Akaka Development Council, Hon. Yemi Sobambo, also lauded the project, noting that with the road linking four major towns and the polytechnic campus, Akaka is set to experience unprecedented growth.

Similarly, a resident of Akaka, Evang. Jacob Ayanwale Taiwo, thanked the governor for delivering on his promise and for facilitating the World Bank project that has opened access to farmlands.
