A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has pledged to make agriculture the cornerstone of his administration if elected in the 2026 governorship election.
Party leaders, ward chairmen, and officials reaffirmed their support for his aspiration, describing him as a “round peg in a round hole” capable of taking the state to greater heights.
The APC state treasurer, Femi Kujembola, commended Oyebamiji for conducting his consultations in line with party guidelines, noting that his campaign had been issue-based and devoid of attacks on fellow aspirants.
Speaking with journalists, Oyebamiji said agriculture holds the key to Osun’s socioeconomic revival.
“I have to express my gratitude to our party leaders and members in Atakunmosa West and Atakunmosa East. Indeed, the turnout is overwhelming, and we can see the endorsement. This is quite encouraging. I want to assure our people in the two councils that when I am elected as governor, we will prioritise agriculture,” he said.
Highlighting Osun’s agricultural potential, Oyebamiji added, “This environment is known for agriculture, and we will do everything to support that critical sector of the economy. To revive our economy, there is a need to go back to agriculture. Agriculture, in any form, will have a multiplier effect on our economy. Our government will support our people in all fronts, particularly in agriculture and Small and Medium Enterprises.”
The aspirant, popularly known as AMBO, further promised to create an enabling environment for businesses and attract investors to establish factories and industries that would process farm produce.
“As a finance expert and economist, I know the importance of agriculture in any economy. I want to assure our people that we are going to play a vital role that will scale up the economy and impact greatly on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of our nation in general and our state in particular,” said Oyebamiji, who is also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
He reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful electioneering and urged party members to shun campaigns of calumny and acrimony. He also lauded the party’s overall leader and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for his “unflinching support for the APC.”
APC leaders from Atakunmosa West and East — including Disu Oyedele, James Oni, Mudashiru Bello, Jamiu Olatunberu, and former state lawmaker Babatunde Komolafe — expressed excitement over Oyebamiji’s aspiration. They cited his track record in both private and public sectors, insisting that he is the most competent aspirant to secure victory for the party.
